EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Board of Directors of the McDaniel-Tichenor House has announced the appointment of Lindsey McKinney as its new executive director, effective January 30.

Ms. McKinney holds a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management and Insurance with a minor in Sociology from the University of Georgia where she played Division 1 soccer. Her professional experience as a small business owner, sales manager, event planner and marketing supervisor will be great assets to the management of the historic house.

She has extensive experience with non-profit organizations, having served or currently serving in volunteer capacities with the Junior League of Athens, Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary (former President), Young Professionals Advisory Board at St. Mary’s Hospital, Cancer Foundation of Northeast Georgia and the Oconee Parks Foundation.

“My true passion is bringing people together for causes and celebrations, and I am excited to be part of the future of the historical McDaniel-Tichenor House,” McKinney said.

McKinney has strong ties to Walton County.  Both sets of grandparents lived in Monroe, and her mother, Dawn Griffin, is the retired CEO of Liberty First Bank. She enjoys traveling, reading, and coaching flag football.  She has two sons, Collin and Pierce.

“We are delighted to welcome Lindsey as our new executive director,” said board chair Andrea Gray.  “She has the right combination of experience, skills and local connections to help us move our organization forward, and we are looking forward to working with her.”

Built in 1887, the McDaniel-Tichenor House was home to three generations of the family of Georgia's Governor Henry McDaniel (1883-1886). Members of the family have been instrumental in the founding, development or construction of Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Mercer University, and the State Capitol.  The house was gifted as a historic treasure to the people of Monroe by Mrs. Emily Tichenor.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a house museum offering historical tours, community events and private event rentals.
